I’m sure when Faulkner made this profound statement he was not referring to storage, framing and displaying techniques that make sure your art work moves again a century later.  I guess though, his reference to “artificial means” could be stretched to encompass conservation methods.

If only I could alter Ben Jonson’s famous quote “Art hath an enemy called ignorance” and switch the word ignorance to UV rays and humidity!

If you own pieces of art worth more than the frame they’re set in then you should know that your art collection can deteriorate in quality and loose its value over time if not protected.

Care for your original art prints starts long before you buy it, which is why it is imperative to ask the seller the materials that were used in making and conserving the piece and where and how the art was stored- especially, if you’re buying from an online seller and not directly from a gallery.

From initial research before buying to transportation, storage, framing and hanging, special care will ensure integrity and longevity of your art piece.

Before buying get all the information you can, make sure:

The artist did not use fugitive materials that can fade

No optical brighteners were applied

Only color fast and acid free materials were used

Proper storage was maintained

After you have purchased the art work you need to figure out transportation:

When packing and shipping your art, it’s important to find materials that will provide maximum protection during their journey. If your art piece is an unusual size or dimension, you might need to have a custom box made. Sometimes art stores will give you one.
There are specialty shipping companies that handle rare and costly goods and you pay a premium for their handling abilities. They have special wrapping and packaging materials depending on the medium and size of your art. Check on the covered insurance if your piece is valuable.

Once delivered you need to store it before framing or mounting:

Loose artwork should be stored in shallow drawers and cabinets to prevent scuffing and weight build-up. Try and keep similar sized pieces together.Also, always place sheets between your pieces.

Framed prints and documents should always be stored vertically and preferably in cabinets, separated by foam or felt covered separators.  For long term storage, all hanging devices and wires should be removed to prevent damage to other pieces.

Ready For Framing and Display; Make sure the following are used:

Conservation framing techniques

Archival mat boards and

Archival mounting materials

Proper hanging hardware for your type of wall and only picture hooks that will bear the weight of the framed picture.

Two hooks to hang anything larger than 8” x 10”.

Display and caring for your art:

Pick a spot away from direct sunlight or draft

Avoid extreme temperature and humidity

Do not place over a fireplace

Use air conditioning or de humidifiers if needed

Rotate the artwork around your house regularly

Clean with special cloth and cleaning supplies do not let chemicals rundown inside

For extended care change the back paper of the art every few years and clean the surface to avoid mildew and insects from getting in.

As women we have this amazing inner instinct when it comes to the man in our lives. We can generally tell when something is bothering him, when he’s hiding something and when he can’t contain his excitement. The one area that many women just aren’t sure of is whether or not their boyfriend is on the same page as they are regarding getting married. A man on the verge of proposing will also give it away through his body language. He may stare more longingly into your eyes when you two are together or he’ll hold your hand a bit longer than he usually does. He’s doing this because he feels closer to you than he ever has before. Men who are just about to pop the question are often just as overwhelmed with emotion as the woman on the receiving end of the proposal.

At some point in life, many people decide to wed. During this time, these couples experience some of the happiest times of there life. The love they share keep these marriages going strong. Unfortunately, this question may pop up in one of the spouses mind. Is my spouse cheating? This question leads to suspicion and then comes speculation and finding out the truth somehow. So what brought about this question?

Normally a spouse will suspect cheating if they notice strange behavior from there partner. The ones mentioned above are some of that strange behavior. These all can raise a red flag and bring about that question. So now you may be wondering IF it is going on and how to catch it. There are many ways to catch a cheater. The main concept is how you proceed with it and how you handle it when or if it is discovered.

The first thing you should do is gather your facts. What do you know for sure about your spouse that is strange or random activity? Take note of your partners behavior but in a way that he isn’t aware you aware of his actions. Keep track of when they leave, when they come back, billing statements, suspicious calls, or anything that can help you come closer to a conclusion.

Surprise him when they least expect it. If you know they expect you home at a 5 p.m, come home at 3 p.m. Pay a visit to there place of work one day that they least expect it, especially on those days they say they are working late. You could even follow them if they say they will be leaving out for a while. This might be considered as going a bit far and could get you caught.

There are other strategies you could use that can help you investigate you partners behavior. There is also a right and wrong way of doing it.

Driving in Spain is essentially not very different to how we drive in the UK, but here are a few pointers to make sure that you get the best from your hire car in Murcia and avoid any potential problems.

The main difference is that in Spain they drive on the Right hand side of the road. Be especially careful when setting off from petrol stations, service areas or any off road situations such as large car parks. Take time and remind yourself of this as it can easily be forgotten after driving in Spain for a few days.

If youre driving a UK registered car in Spain leave more room between yourself and the car in front when over taking. This gives a better view of the road ahead and should eliminate any problems you might have when trying to get around slow moving traffic. The best way to eradicate this problem is to hire a car in Murcia once you reach Spain.

Spain has far stricter drink driving regulations than the UK allowing only 0.5 milligrams of alcohol per milliliter of blood. In the UK we are used to 0.8 milligrams; its even stricter for newly licensed drivers. Our suggestion is that if youre driving in Spain avoid any alcoholic drinks if you know you are going to be driving in the near future. By sticking to this precaution you can be sure not to run into any unforeseen problems with the local police force.

As in the UK seat belts must be worn at all times by all occupants of the vehicle both in the front and back. This is common sense these days in the UK but is still rigorously enforced in Spain.

Recently the rules for motorway overtaking have been re-written in Spain; make sure you clearly indicate before overtaking as well as when you pull back in on a Spanish motorway. Likewise when entering a motorway from a slip road ensure you wait until the white line becomes broken before pulling out. Not obeying either of these rules could land you with an on the spot fine.

Children under 12 years of age must not travel in the front of a car in Spain unless the car is fitted with a suitably adapted seat belt restraint. This is a rule we dont have in the UK and when you and your family are enjoying a holiday it can be easily forgotten.

Should you break down in Spain a warning triangle is compulsory. This should be carried in the car at all times. If the car is Spanish registered you actually have to carry two so make sure your hire company has equipped the car with these before you leave the rental office. Similarly, high visibility vests need to be carried incase of breakdown. If you should be unlucky enough to breakdown on a motorway make sure you and your passengers dont sit in the vehicle on the hard shoulder. Leave the car with the hazard lights on and warning triangles set up at the appropriate distances away, sit safely on the grass verge until help arrives.

A green card for driving in Spain is not compulsory but its a good idea to advise your insurers of your intended trip. Its also a good idea to let your bank know that you are traveling abroad so that they dont put a hold on your card if transactions pop up in places they wouldnt expect and they think they might be fraudulent.

A vast majority of Spanish filling stations now accept credit cards out of hours I.e. between 12 pm and 3 pm, or late at night. However your card may not work as they are designed for Spanish credit cards only. Be sure to top up with fuel regularly and during shop opening hours to avoid running dry.

Always carry with you a new photo identity drivers license, your passport, vehicle registration certificate and relevant insurance documents from your hire company.

Having read all of these precursory do’s and donts try not to worry, driving in Spain is straight forward and really very similar to the UK. A Hire car is a fantastic way of enhancing your holiday experience, make sure you take full advantage of it and enjoy it to its fullest.

If you two regularly hang out with friends or family and others make comments about whether you two will marry, watch your boyfriend’s reaction. If he smiles coyly, that’s a sign that he’s definitely thinking about a more serious commitment with you. If he is adamant about that not being the case or says that marriage is somewhere down the road, he’s enjoying just being your boyfriend and sees no reason to change that anytime soon.

Naturally, you don’t have to question what he’s feeling if you sense that he’s close to purchasing an engagement ring. Not all men are subtle about this. Some will get a mutual, married female friend to ask your opinion on her ring. Other men will innocently walk you past a jewelry store and then bring up the subject of what style of ring you always imagined having. If your guy is doing this, it’s obvious that a proposal and wedding is in your very near future.

By carefully watching the subtle clues he’s giving you, you’ll soon know where his heart truly is. Although he may not be boldly screaming to the world he wants to be your husband, he may be sending you signals that it’s exactly what he wants.
